Girls in Technology hosts its Fall 2015 SOS (Sharing Our Success) program, “Girls Leading the Way,” at AOL headquarters in Sterling, VA. One-hundred-and-seventeen young girls were present at the event where a number of representative booths–including NOVA Enrichment Academy, Smithsonian Institute, Noldus behavioral research facility and others–were present to broaden the girls’ horizons and whet their scientific, technological, engineering, artistic, and mathematical appetites. Our very own Norma Henry, founder and CEO, had the honor of MCing the occasion.
The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Marian L. McKee, Vice Chair of STEM For Her, the education foundation for Women In Technology. A microbiologist by trade, she devotes much of her time to training and mentoring young women in pursuit of careers in science and nurturing their passion for scientific understanding. Dr. McKee obtained her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and her B.S. in Zoology from Duke University.
